You want the wave near your turret until you have eleven and first item. Akshan can dive you and run you down very easily if the wave isn’t in a good position. Try not to push the wave when you are farming with q.

Stay away from walls. Respect his invisibility and ping missing. If he randomly leaves lane or goes into a bush, he might be invisible waiting for you.

Do not ever trade with Akshan pre six. Make sure when you are using your e to farm you do not get in range of his e. Post six looking for q auto e is not recommended since if he gets his shield off its a losing trade.
